How to lose extra weight and go the desired fitness level? First of all, this is possible with the help of diets and physical exercises. Water massage can be a perfect addition to this duo. Water lovers will definitely find the appropriate procedures.

How to Choose: Pool, Bath, or Shower?

How to massage problem areas with water? let’s sort out the different methods.

Home Options

The most luxurious option, but at the same time expensive one is a shower cabin or a hot tub in your own bathroom. Modern shops of sanitaryware will offer you a wide range of such equipment.

Is it time to update your bathroom? If yes, think about spending a few extra money and you will get an opportunity to do anti-cellulite water massage at home (increase the overall muscle tone, relieve fatigue).

This sanitary equipment is advantageous because it allows to set not only the necessary temperature of water, but also a force of water jets. In other words, you control the pressure with which water influences your body.

Advice. When massaging the abdomen, the water pressure should not exceed one atmosphere. For hips, the pressure from two to three atmospheres is appropriate. Higher pressure often causes unpleasant sensations/pain.

Has your bathroom not equipped with such devices in terms of improvement? Even then you can perform a self-massage with water. Especially if you buy a special shower head. Ideally, it should have a lever that allows you to switch modes.

Hydromassage bath for weight loss

For any version of home hydromassage several general rules are applied:

  • water must be warm or cool;
  • change the temperature gradually from one side to another, excluding sudden changes;
  • change the force of water jets is also desirable: weaken and strengthen;
  • the procedure should not last more than 20 minutes.

Of course, home anti-cellulite water massage can be less effective than in resort conditions (clinics, salons), especially if you do it without a special bath or shower cabin.

Swimming in the Pool

If you have an opportunity to visit a good swimming pool, then one of the perfect methods to lose weight is available for you – swimming. It combines both physical exercises and massage.

Modern pool with hydro massage equipment

Fact. Water is denser than air by about 800 times (that’s why you can stay on the surface but have difficulties to walk). When swimming, the water resistance creates a slight but noticeable massage.

Swimming pools in resorts are often equipped with hydro massage jets. Due to this, you can alternate swimming and anti-cellulite water massage being in the pool.

If you combine swimming and massage twice-three times a week, you will get positive results quickly and noticebly. This is the best option to lose weight in hips and buttocks (to additionally fight against extra weight in these areas, you can perform simple but very effective exercises which we already wrote about).

Charcot Shower

This type of shower was introduced a century and a half ago by Jean-Martin Charcot, the founder of neuropathy. Like many other medical innovations, it was initially developed for one purpose (treatment of neurological diseases), but nowadays it is successfully used to solve numerous other tasks.

Charcot shower

Charcot shower is effectively used to lose weight, but it is appropriate to perform it only in health resorts. The procedure is carried out in a special room:

  • the patient stands close to the wall (often there are handrails to conveniently hold);
  • a specialist directs one or two jets to the body and performs certain manipulations with them;
  • after the end of the procedure (on average it takes five-seven minutes), you have to wipe dry with a towel and just relax.

Charcot shower is a very effective tool. Ten procedures with one-day intervals are enough to see this. Powerful water jets not only promote weight loss but also fight against cellulite. But this procedure is not for everybody. Even relatively low pressure can cause discomfort, but there should be no pain.

Underwater Shower

One more professional type of hydro massage. To conduct the procedure, the patient is placed in a quite large bath (usually 2 x 1 x 0.8 m), which is equipped both with jets and showers with various nozzles. Water can be fresh, sea or mineral depending on the resort possibilities.

Professional type of hydro massage – underwater shower

Massage is performed by a specialist who influences the problem areas with the help of showers with various nozzles. Everything happens quite as usually during regular massage: intensive water effects alternate with relaxing ones.

The duration of each procedure as well as the total amount of sessions is discussed with a massage parlor specialist and/or doctor.

What to rely on when choosing the method? It is better to consult your doctor.

How Does Water Massage Work?

In general, it works as any other type of massage (for example, abdominal and waist massagers). Do not expect that water can “wash out” subcutaneous fat from your body or flush out excessive lipids through pores. But it is for sure that there will be an activation of blood circulation, lymph flow, metabolic processes. Moreover, with a sufficient water pressure (Charcot shower) muscles reflexively strain, which promotes weight loss even more.

It is important to remember that only hydro massage will not help to get rid of extra weight. It is effective only in complex with a diet and feasible physical exercises.

Nuances and Contraindications

During any type of hydro massage, it is necessary to protect your breasts, armpits, groin area, face, and genitals from water exposure. It is strongly not recommended to overeat before the procedure, but there is no need to starve as well. An optimal time interval between a meal and visiting the health resort is a one-one and half hour. You should not consume alcohol at all while the full course continues, especially if the sessions are repeated every day or every other day.

Standard contraindications for these procedures include:

  • pregnancy (breastfeeding is acceptable after consultation with a doctor);
  • any acute and chronic diseases, even if it is a common runny nose;
  • skin diseases and injuries;
  • oncology;
  • cholelithiasis and urolithiasis;
  • any diseases associated with heart, blood circulation, or metabolic disorders (require mandatory consultation with the relevant specialist).
