How does unhealthy corpulence disappear and coveted harmony appear? Mainly due to diets and training. Massage that aims at weight loss becomes an excellent addition to this combination. Those who like water can choose procedures of an appropriate type.
Where is better to have it — in a pool, a bathtub, or a shower?
How can you massage problem areas with the help of water? Let’s consider different methods.
Home options
Having a shower cabin or a bathtub with a hydromassage in your bathroom can be recognized as the most luxurious, though not the most affordable option. Plumbing stores sometimes offer a huge amount of such equipment options.
Maybe now is the time when you are going to redesign your bathroom? So think about it: maybe it is worth allocating additional funds to give yourself an opportunity to have a water massage at home for losing weight (boosting the tone, relieving fatigue).
This type of plumbing is good because it allows you to set not only the water temperature but also the intensity of jets. This permits regulating the power of water impact (pressure) on the body.
Recommendations. Water pressure during abdominal massage should not exceed one atmosphere. Impact on the hips is allowed at a level of two to three atmospheres. Higher pressure usually causes unpleasant/painful sensations.
Does minimalism reign in your home bathroom? In this case, you can still arrange water self-massage sessions. Especially if you buy a special shower head. It is ideal if it is possible to switch modes on it with a special lever.
Whirlpool bath for losing weight
The following rules apply to any home hydromassage:
- water should be warm or cool;
- it is necessary to slightly change the water temperature, sometimes in one direction, sometimes in the other, without making too sudden changes;
- it is also recommended to change the water pressure, making it slightly weaker or slightly stronger;
- the duration of the procedure is 20 minutes maximum.
Of course, at home, especially in the absence of a special bathtub or shower stall, water massage for weight loss will be less effective than in treatment and recreation centers (clinics, salons).
In the pool
If you have the opportunity to visit a good pool, then one of the best ways to lose weight is available to you — swimming. This activity simultaneously combines physical activity and massage.
Modern pool with hydromassage equipment
Fact. Water is 800 times denser than air (that’s why you can stay above it, and it is so difficult to walk through it). When swimming, water resistance gives a small but obvious massage effect.
Pools in wellness centers are often equipped with nozzles for hydromassage. Therefore, you can alternate swimming and water massage for weight loss in the pool.
If you arrange swimming and massage sessions two to three times a week during a month, the positive result will manifest itself quite quickly and very noticeably. This option is most suitable for losing weight in the hips and buttocks (for additional fight against extra pounds in these areas, you can perform simple but effective exercises, which we wrote about earlier).
Charcot douche
This douche was invented in the 19th century by Jean-Martin Charcot, the founder of neuropathology. As many medical inventions, it was created for one purpose (treatment of nervous diseases), but in our time, it solves various problems.
Charcot douche
Charcot douche is successfully used for losing weight, but it should be performed only in treatment and recreation institutions. The procedure takes place in a special room:
- the recipient stands near the wall (quite often, there are handrails which are very comfortable to hold on to);
- a medical worker directs one to two jets onto the body and performs certain manipulations with them;
- after the procedure is over (on average, they last five to seven minutes), it is necessary to dry the body with a towel and then relax.
Charcot douche is a very effective measure. Ten sessions with an interval of one day are enough to agree with this statement. Powerful water jets not only promote weight loss but also help with cellulite. However, not everyone likes the procedure. Even a relatively small pressure can cause unpleasant sensations, although there should be no pain in the norm.
Underwater shower
Another professional type of hydromassage. To perform the procedure, the recipient lies in a bathtub of a sufficiently large size (usually 2 x 1 x 0.8 m), equipped with both nozzles and showers with various attachments. The water can be fresh, sea, or mineral (it depends on the institution’s capabilities).
Professional type of hydromassage — underwater shower
The massage is performed by a specialist who works out problem areas with the help of showers. Everything proceeds approximately the same as with a regular massage: intensive water impacts alternate with relaxing ones.
The duration of each procedure, as well as the total number of sessions, are discussed with a specialist of the massage center and/or a treating physician.
What to be guided by when choosing a method? The best option is a doctor’s consultation.
How does water massage work?
In general — like any other (for example, for losing weight on the abdomen and sides). You should not believe that water can “knock out” subcutaneous fat from the body or wash away lipid excess through the pores. But there is no doubt that blood flow, lymphatic drainage, and metabolic processes will be activated. In addition, with a sufficiently strong water pressure (Charcot douche), muscles reflexively tense up, which contributes to losing weight even more.
It is important not to forget that hydromassage in itself will not help to get rid of significant excess weight. It is effective only in combination with diet and feasible physical activities.
Particularities and contraindications
With any hydromassage, there should be no impact on mammary glands and armpits, inguinal areas, face, and sexual organs. It is strictly forbidden to overeat before the procedure, but a feeling of hunger is also useless. The appropriate interval between eating and visiting the recreational center is one to one and a half hours. Until the entire course is completed, especially if the sessions are repeated daily or every other day, you need to completely give up alcohol.
Contraindications to the procedure are standard:
- upcoming pregnancy (with breastfeeding — with the doctor’s approval);
- any acute diseases and conditions, even if we are talking about a slight runny nose;
- skin diseases and damages;
- oncology;
- biliary and urolithiasis;
- all diseases associated with a violation of the work of the heart, blood circulation, or metabolic processes (require a mandatory consultation with an appropriate specialist).
