How to lose weight and reach the desired slim figure? As a rule, through diets and physical activity. Various types of massage, including a massage to lose weight, can be a great supplement. Those who prefer water treatments can find a suitable procedure.
What’s better a pool, a bath or a shower?
How to use water to massage the problem areas? Let’s talk about different techniques.
Home options
A shower cabin or hot tub is perhaps the most comfortable option, but not the cheapest one. The choice of such equipment in plumbing shops is occasionally enormous.
Are you planning a bathroom renovation? If so, think about allocating the extra funds to be able to take hydromassage baths at home, for the purpose of losing weight (tightening muscles, reducing fatigue).
The advantage of such plumbing is that it allows you to regulate not only the temperature of the water, but also the power of the jet. As a result, it is possible to control the power of the water’s impact (pressure) on the body.
Recommendation. The water pressure during abdominal massage should not exceed one atmosphere. Hips can withstand two to three atmospheres. Higher pressure usually causes discomfort or even pain.
Is the interior of your bathroom minimalistic? It doesn’t matter, you can still give yourself a massage with water. Especially if you buy a special shower head. It would be optimal if it has a mode switching function.
Jacuzzi tub to lose weight
The following rules apply to any home hydromassage:
- the water should be warm or cool;
- from time to time, you need to slightly change the temperature of the water, but the changes should not be too abrupt;
- you also need to change the water pressure, making it slightly weaker or stronger;
- the procedure should not take more than 20 minutes.
Of course, home hydromassage for weight loss will be less effective than in specialized medical institutions (clinics, SPA), especially if you do not have a special bath or shower.
Pool
If you have the possibility to visit a good pool, then swimming, one of the best ways to lose weight, becomes available. This activity combines physical activity and massage.
Modern swimming pool with hydromassage equipment
Fact. Water is denser than air by 800 times (this is why you float on the surface of the water, but move relatively slowly underwater). The resistance of the water when swimming creates a light, but noticeable massage effect.
Swimming pools in medical institutions are often equipped with specialized hydro massage jets. This makes it possible to alternate swimming and hydromassage in the pool to lose weight.
If you organize two to three such sessions of swimming/massage a week for a month, then a positive result will soon be noticeable and apparent. This is the optimal variant for losing weight in the hips and buttocks (to burn more fat in these areas, you can perform simple but effective exercises that we wrote about earlier).
Charcot shower
This shower was invented in the 19th century by Jean-Martin Charcot, the founder of neurology. Like many medical inventions, it was created for one purpose (treating neurological diseases), but today it solves a wide range of problems.
Charcot shower
The Charcot shower is successfully used to lose weight, but it is recommended to take it only in medical institutions. The procedure takes place in a special shower room:
- a patient stands by the wall (often, for convenience, there are handrails there);
- one or two jets of water are directed to the body, a medical specialist performs certain manipulations with them;
- after the procedure (which lasts five to seven minutes, on average), you need to wipe dry and lie down to rest.
The Charcot shower is a very effective procedure. Around ten sessions with one-day breaks will be enough to confirm this statement. Powerful water jets will not only help to lose weight, but also help fight cellulite. However, not everyone enjoys the procedure. Sometimes, even relatively low pressure can cause discomfort, although no pain should be felt during the normal course of events.
Underwater shower
This is another type of professional hydromassage. The procedure involves lying in a rather large bath (usually 2 x 1 x 0.8 m in size) equipped with both jets and shower heads with various nozzles. The water can be fresh, sea or mineral (depending on the capabilities of the medical institution).
Professional type of hydromassage – underwater shower
A specialist performs the massage using shower heads to target problem areas. The procedure is similar to a regular massage: intensive water exposure alternates with relaxing exposure.
The duration of each procedure, as well as the total number of sessions, should be discussed with a specialist from the massage parlor or your doctor.
How to choose a technique? It is best to seek advice from your doctor.
How does a hydromassage work?
In general, it works the same as any other type of massage (for example, for losing weight in the abdomen and waist). You should not expect water to “knock out” subcutaneous fat from the body or wash away excess lipids through the pores. However, it will undoubtedly activate blood flow, lymph drainage and metabolic processes. In addition, a sufficiently strong water stream (Charcot shower) causes a reflex tension of muscles, which contributes to even more effective weight loss.
It is important to remember that hydromassage itself will not help you to lose weight significantly. It is effective only in combination with a diet and sufficient physical activity.
Nuances and contraindications
During any hydromassage, the chest and armpit areas, groin, face and genitals should not be exposed to water jets. It is not recommended to overeat before the procedure, but you should not be hungry either. A good interval between eating and visiting a medical institution is one to one and a half hours. It is necessary to completely exclude alcohol until the end of the course, especially if the sessions are repeated every day or every other day.
The contraindications are standard:
- pregnancy and childbirth (breastfeeding – with a doctor’s permission);
- any acute diseases and conditions, even a slight cold;
- skin diseases and injuries;
- oncology;
- cholelithiasis and urolithiasis;
- all diseases related to a violation of cardiac activity, blood circulation, metabolic processes (require mandatory consultation with the relevant specialist).
Hydromassage for weight loss is a great additional procedure. Its competent and regular use will help to normalize the subcutaneous fat layer
