Ozone therapy used to be a separate branch of medicine — young, promising, full of potential, and was used quite actively during the First World War for pain relief and wound healing. Today, it is treated more cautiously and considered a nontraditional direction in medical practice. It is only partially used in gynecology, urology, and surgery. However, in cosmetology, it has gained the upper hand.
In particular, ozone therapy for weight loss is one of the alternative techniques that allows you to get rid of extra weight and adjust your figure in the most problematic areas.
Essence of the Procedure
Ozone is oxygen with one more active molecule that enhances all oxidation processes in the body. It has no mutagenic effect on cells.
When deciding on this method of losing weight, you must know that this is a physiotherapeutic treatment related to non-traditional medicine, which involves the use of ozone generated by special devices (ozonators).
This substance can be applied externally, subcutaneously, or intravenously. For weight loss, it is injected either in pure form into the subcutaneous fat or as part of a saline solution or the patient’s own blood — into a vein. It is toxic to the lungs when inhaled and dangerous when administered intravenously in pure form.
Origin of the name. The word “ozone” comes from the ancient Greek “ὄζω”, which translates as “to smell”. This is due to the fact that this substance has a characteristic fresh smell that cannot be confused with anything else.
Types
The following types of therapy are offered for weight loss.
- Subcutaneous injections
Injection subcutaneous ozone therapy is the most popular due to its painlessness and effectiveness. Using a syringe and an ultra-thin needle, the problem area of the body with fatty deposits is injected with an ozone-oxygen mixture. It takes a minimum of time, and the result lasts up to six months.
Since the waist in women is the most problematic, injections are usually given in the abdomen and sides. Although other areas are also easy to work with: you can order sessions for slimming arms, legs, and even the back.
- Intravenous
Intravenous (drip) ozone therapy is a more serious procedure when a mixture of ozone and saline is injected into a vein. It is considered more effective as it affects the entire body as a whole, rather than any particular area of the body. It speeds up metabolism and breaks down fat cells throughout the body. Although the result is not instantaneous, it is stable. However, many remain dissatisfied, noting the general health improvement and well-being, but at the same time a very slight decrease in weight.
The intravenous method is much more dangerous than the injection method. Serious side effects with subsequent complications can occur afterwards. In addition, it has a long list of contraindications.
- Wraps
This technique is for those who are afraid of injections. Here, ozone is included in the composition of anti-cellulite mixtures, which are used in wraps for weight loss. Such local ozone therapy allows you to perfectly work out and adjust the most problematic areas on the body.
- Massage
Oils enriched with ozone can be used in corrective massage. You will not see a special slimming effect, but cellulite folds will disappear after a course of the appropriate procedures.
Despite such a variety of techniques, the first two (subcutaneous and intravenous) remain the most effective and in demand.
New fashion. One of the most innovative trends in weight loss with the help of ozone therapy is special baths and saunas.
Effects on the Body
Different concentrations of gas are used for different procedures. Depending on its saturation with oxygen molecules, it has the following effect on tissues:
- stimulating — accelerates metabolism in cells;
- enhancing blood flow — improves the supply of all necessary nutrients to tissues;
- modeling — destroys fat cells and their contents, which become liquid and are easily excreted from the body with the outflow of lymph.
Ozone-oxygen mixture
The result of injection ozone therapy is not only a decrease in body fat in the treated area. The condition of the skin in this place also improves markedly: its turgor and tone increase, and cellulite disappears. As cosmetologists say, such injections are an excellent alternative to non-surgical liposuction.
Through the pages of history. Ozone was discovered in 1785 by the Dutch physicist M. van Marum, but it got its name and practical application only in 1840, thanks to the German chemist X. F. Schönbein.

Did you know that… ozone is one of the most toxic and dangerous substances for human health?
Pros and Cons
Before deciding on ozone therapy as a weight loss technique, you need to undergo a medical examination to see if you have any contraindications to its administration. The second step is to weigh the pros and cons — it makes sense to read the forums and the opinions of those who have already undergone a weight loss course in this way.
Pros for the weight loss process:
- minimal pain during injections, comfortable conditions;
- speed (injection of even the most extensive areas takes no more than 10 minutes);
- inexpensive price compared to other weight loss procedures (for example, correction of the abdomen, back, shoulders, knees, arms — $20 for each body part, waist — $25, buttocks and thighs — $35);
- possibility of correction of extensive areas of the body;
- maximum result.
Pros for general health:
- immunity increases;
- anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, and antiviral effect;
- prevention of fungal infections;
- no fatigue or stress;
- early healing and analgesic effect;
- ozone is an antioxidant that can fight cancer cells;
- accelerated metabolism and rapid cell regeneration.
Flaws:
- danger, pain;
- not a small list of contraindications and side effects;
- not recognized by official medicine;
- results do not always appear (as cosmetologists say, it depends on the individual characteristics of the organism);
