Ozone therapy, once a separate branch of medicine – young, prospective and rather actively used in World War I to relieve pain and heal wounds, today is treated with great caution and is considered an alternative method in the healthcare industry. In gynecology, urology, and surgery, it is used only sporadically, but it has become a leader in cosmetology.
In particular, ozone therapy is one of the alternative methods for losing extra weight and body contouring in the most problematic areas.
Essence of the Procedure
Ozone is oxygen with one more active molecule, which increases all oxidation processes in the body. It has no mutagenic effect on cells.
If you decide to use this method to reduce weight, you need to know that it is a physiotherapeutic effect, which refers to alternative medicine, involving the use of ozone generated by special devices (ozonators).
This substance can be used externally, subcutaneously, or intravenously. To lose weight, it is injected either in its pure form into the subcutaneous tissue or, as part of a saline solution or the patient’s own blood, into a vein. Dangerous when administered intravenously in its pure form, toxic to the lungs when inhaled.
Origin of the name. The word “ozone” goes back to the ancient Greek “ὄζω”, which means “to smell”. This is due to the fact that this substance has a characteristic smell of freshness, which cannot be confused with anything else.
Types
The following types of therapy are offered to lose weight.
- Injection Subcutaneous
Injection subcutaneous ozone therapy is the most popular due to its painlessness and effectiveness. Using a syringe and a very fine needle, an ozone-oxygen mixture is injected into a problem area of the body with fat deposits. It takes very little time and the effect lasts up to six months.
Since in women the waist area is the most problematic, injections are usually given in the abdomen and sides. Although other areas can also be easily treated: you can apply for procedures for body shaping of the arms, legs and even back.
- Intravenous
Intravenous (drip) ozone therapy is a more serious procedure when a mixture of ozone and saline is injected into a vein. It is considered more effective, as it affects the entire body as a whole, rather than a specific part of the body. It accelerates metabolism, breaks down fat cells throughout the body. The effect is long-lasting, although not instantaneous. However, many are dissatisfied, noting a general improvement in well-being and health, but a very slight decrease in weight.
The intravenous method is much more dangerous than the injection method. After it, serious side effects may occur, with subsequent complications. Moreover, it has a large list of contraindications.
- Wraps
This technique is for those who are afraid of injections. Here, ozone is included in anti-cellulite mixtures used for wraps to lose weight. Such local ozone therapy allows you to work out and correct the most problematic areas on the body.
- Massage
For corrective massage, oils enriched with ozone can be used. You will not see a special slimming effect, but cellulite dimples will disappear after a course of appropriate procedures.
Despite this variety of techniques, the first two (subcutaneous and intravenous) remain the most effective and in demand.
A new trend. One of the most innovative areas in the fight against excess weight through ozone therapy is special baths and saunas.
Impact on the Organism
Different gas concentrations are used for different procedures. Depending on its oxygen molecule saturation, the following effect on tissues is achieved:
- stimulating — accelerates the metabolism in the cells;
- vasodilating — improves tissue supply with all the necessary nutrients;
- modeling — destroys fat cells and their contents, which becomes liquid and is easily removed from the body with the outflow of lymph.
Ozone-oxygen mixture
The result of injection ozone therapy is not only a decrease in fatty deposits in the treated area. The condition of the skin in this area also significantly improves: its turgor and tone increase, and cellulite disappears. As beauticians say, such injections are an excellent alternative to non-surgical liposuction.
Pages of history. Ozone was first discovered in 1785 by the Dutch physicist M. van Marum, but it got its name and practical application only in 1840 thanks to the German chemist H. F. Schoenbein.

Advantages and Disadvantages
Before deciding on ozone therapy as a way of losing weight, you need to undergo a medical examination to find out if you have any contraindications to it. The second step is to weigh all the pros and cons. It is not unnecessary to read forums and opinions of those who have already undergone a course of weight loss in this way.
Advantages for the process of losing weight:
- minimal pain during injections, comfortable conditions;
- speed (an injection even of the largest areas takes no more than 10 minutes);
- low cost compared to other procedures for losing weight (for example, correction of the abdomen, back, buttocks, knees, arms – $20 for each part of the body, waist – $25, buttocks and thighs – $35);
- possibility to correct large areas of the body;
- maximum result.
Advantages for overall health improvement:
- increased immunity;
- anti-inflammatory, bactericidal and antiviral effect;
- prevention of fungal infections;
- no fatigue or stress;
- early healing and analgesic effect;
- ozone is an antioxidant that can fight cancer cells;
- activation of metabolism and rapid cell regeneration.
Disadvantages:
- dangerous, painful;
- a significant number of contraindications and side effects;
- not recognized by mainstream medicine;
- results do not always appear (beauticians attribute this to individual characteristics of the body);
