Many are surprised by the fact that in dietetics, a fasting day on chocolate is offered for fast and easy weight loss. Can such a high-calorie and sweet product contribute to weight loss? It turns out that such miracles happen, and we still know little about our body. If you are afraid of lean fasts, this option is a real find for you.
Weight Loss Mechanism
A chocolate fasting day was developed by nutritionists for a long time, and its effect on the body was studied far and wide. Weight loss becomes possible thanks to cocoa beans, which:
- prevent the development of insulin resistance (this is the most common cause of obesity) and improve the regulation of glucose absorption;
- support beneficial microflora in the intestine, thanks to which food is digested faster;
- eliminate foci of inflammation in the body that can provoke a set of excess weight;
- reduce depression, so there is no need to “seize” stress;
- accelerate metabolism;
- effectively break down fats, removing them from the body (though, this is a rather long process that cannot be completed in one day, but you will at least start it).
So it turns out that chocolate, despite its high calorie content (more than 500 kcal per 100 g), is no less useful for losing weight than most other dietary products. And the results of such fasting days are proof of this. If you do everything right, you can lose up to 1.5 kg.
Origin of the name. The word “chocolate” goes back to the Mayan language, where “xocolatl” meant “bitter water”.

Did you know that chocolate contains “theobromine” – a substance that makes this product toxic to animals?
How to make a choice?
The variety of chocolate today is so diverse that the problem of choice arises involuntarily. Porous, dessert, vegan, diabetic, powdered, liquid… Which one will contribute to maximum weight loss during the fasting day? After all, it is worth making a mistake in this matter – and instead of losing extra pounds, you can gain weight.
Dark/Black/Bitter
The best option that nutritionists recommend for weight loss is dark chocolate. It contains the highest percentage of cocoa beans, which are responsible for weight loss: more than 55%. It is better to choose bars with a cocoa content of at least 75% – it will be more useful. This is the product that is labeled “bitter”. If the numbers are less, the packaging will say “dark” or “black”.
Milk
Undoubtedly, losing weight on milk chocolate is much more pleasant, since it tastes very delicate and tender, literally melting in your mouth. However, its cocoa bean content is minimal, which means that all the difficulties of the fasting day can go unnoticed. In addition, powdered milk or cream with a fat content of 2.5% in its composition are far from dietary products, and there is practically no benefit from them. Therefore, nutritionists do not recommend this type.
White
You can find anything you want on the Internet. Even such a paradox as a fasting day menu on white chocolate. Although this delicacy does not contain a single gram of cocoa beans, which start all the processes in the body, leading to weight loss. So there is nothing more useless for fighting extra pounds.
Other varieties are also useless for weight loss, so you can safely bypass them.
Interesting fact. The most expensive chocolate is “Chocopologie by Knipschildt”. 453 g of treats cost $2,600.
