No festive table is complete without kiwi: fruit salads, cocktails, berry pies. But we’re interested in its benefits for weight loss. Nutritionists have long included “Chinese gooseberries”, as they’re also known, in the list of “healthy” foods. We’ll talk about fasting day on it.
Benefits
This berry comes from China. The wild ancestor of modern plants was brought to New Zealand, where after selective breeding, it acquired the taste and appearance that is known to millions of fans today. The fruits are appreciated for their unusual taste: a mixture of gooseberries, banana, melon, strawberries, apple and pineapple. Their benefit is in the unique composition and caloric content.
Low calorie content
There are only 50 kcal in 100 g. Such caloric content is equated to zero. All the energy is spent on the digestion process itself. Therefore, you can eat kiwi in unlimited quantities, without worrying about your weight. 1 kg is usually recommended for a fasting day. This amounts to 500 kcal.
Biologically active substances
Contains the unique enzyme actinidin, which is similar in properties to digestive enzymes. It breaks down proteins and speeds up metabolism. Fat deposits are used up faster, kilograms go away. Kiwi is very good to eat with meat and other “heavy” dishes.
Dietary fiber
Practically not digested. Passing through the intestines, they “hook” all the toxins that accumulate there due to improper nutrition. When losing weight, the amount of such harmful substances increases. After their removal, digestion improves, the toxic effect is eliminated, and the heaviness in the abdomen disappears.
Biochemical treasure trove
Everyone knows about the benefits of vitamins and minerals. Here’s what makes kiwi stand out from the general range of fruits and berries:
- A huge amount of vitamin C. 100 g contains the daily norm. This is more than all citrus fruits and bell peppers. It is not directly related to weight loss, but such a “bonus” is very useful for immunity.
- Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant that slows down the aging process and prevents the formation of atypical tumor cells. It is found in high-calorie foods — eggs, nuts, fatty fish. People who watch their figure usually do not use such a menu, which leads to a deficiency of vitamin E. Kiwi can solve this problem.
- Nicotinic acid (PP) reduces the level of triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood. For those who suffer from severe forms of obesity, this is vital (prevention of heart attack, stroke, diabetes).
- Of the trace elements, iodine is especially important for those who are losing weight. It is necessary for the thyroid gland, without which normal weight control is impossible.
The composition is also rich in vitamins A, group B (B1, B6, B12, B5), calcium, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Such a variety, combined with low caloric content, guarantees excellent results in losing weight without harm to health. After all, the lack of nutrients is the main thing for which nutritionists do not welcome the enthusiasm for diets.
Preparation
In order to get the maximum effect (you can lose up to 1.5 kg of weight per day), proper preparation is important:
- The day before, stop eating fatty and “harmful” food (we exclude food with colorings, preservatives, fried, smoked dishes).
- The last meal is no later than 18:00, and it is better if it is just a glass of kefir.
- Prepare 2 liters of non-carbonated mineral water and 1 kg of kiwi in advance.
How to choose a quality product?
Probably, each of us has bought green fruits at least once in our lives. What a disappointment it is when instead of a delicious sweet treat, you get something that goes straight to the trash! In order not to make mistakes anymore, remember these simple rules:
- For consistency, choose the golden mean: too hard they are green, but very soft, most likely overripe or even spoiled.
- By color: look for a uniform greenish-protective color and a little fluff. If there are dark spots or uneven “hairiness”, it is better not to take them.
- By smell: fresh fruits do not smell. During long storage, a “winey smell” appears — this is a sign of spoilage.
- A special place is where the stem was attached. If a drop of juice appears after pressing, then storage was improper.
- Additional plaque: it should not be there! This is a sign of mold.
And finally, it is better to buy fruits not in ready-made packaging, but by weight. It is not for nothing that they are a little more expensive. Sellers thus confirm that it is easier to hide damaged products in ready-made packages.
Options
Option 1. Basic
The classic fasting day on kiwi involves the following menu:
- Kiwi — 1 kg.
- Chicken breast without skin — 1 pc.
- Water without gas and green tea — 2 liters.
It is better to boil the meat the same day in the morning. We divide the products into 6 equal parts. It turns out that you eat every 2 hours. In between, we drink water and tea without sugar.
Why chicken breast?
- This is almost pure protein, which is guaranteed not to be deposited in the form of fats.
- Protein takes longer to digest and causes a long feeling of fullness.
- It is also an excellent building material for muscle tissue. If you arrange such a fasting day 1-2 times a week, you can not only lose weight, but also work on the tone of the body.
Option 2. “Minus 1 kg”
The rules are the same, but instead of boiled chicken breast we use boiled buckwheat porridge — 0.5 cups. Buckwheat perfectly cleanses the body, improves metabolism and reduces appetite.
Option 3. Vegetarian
If you do not eat meat, you can replace meat with legumes. On the fasting day, we eat kiwi, drink water and tea, and instead of chicken breast, we arrange a lentil porridge (1 cup). Lentils are a real treasure of vegetable protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals.
Precautions
Kiwi can be dangerous if you are allergic to it. Therefore, if you decide to have a fasting day, but have never eaten this fruit before, be sure to introduce it into your diet in small quantities for several days. If there is no reaction, you can arrange a fasting day.
Contraindications:
- Gastritis or peptic ulcer disease with high acidity — kiwi is a strong irritant.
- Acute diarrhea — dietary fiber will aggravate the situation.
- Kidney disease — this product is saturated with potassium salts.
You should not get carried away with kiwi if you have a tendency to bleeding. This fruit dilutes the blood, which can worsen the condition.
Remember that a fasting day is not a way to lose weight forever. The result lasts as long as you stay on a healthy diet and exercise. A fasting day can be a great start to a decisive struggle with extra pounds.
