Kiwi is a must-have on any holiday table: fruit salads, cocktails, berry pies. But we are interested in its benefits for weight loss. Nutritionists have long included the “Chinese gooseberry”, as it is also called, in the list of “correct” products. We will tell you about the fasting day on it.
Benefits
This berry is native to China. The wild ancestor of modern plants was brought to New Zealand, where after selection, it acquired the taste and appearance known today to millions of its fans. The fruits are valued for their unusual taste: a mixture of gooseberry, banana, melon, strawberry, apple and pineapple. Their benefits lie in their unique composition and calorie content.
Low calorie content
100 g contains only 50 kcal. Such calorie content is equivalent to zero. All energy is spent on the digestion process itself. Therefore, kiwi can be eaten in unlimited quantities without worrying about weight. For a fasting day, 1 kg is usually recommended. This is 500 kcal.
Biologically active substances
Contains a unique enzyme actinidin, which is close in properties to digestive enzymes. It breaks down proteins and speeds up metabolism. Body fat is used up faster, kilograms go away. Kiwi is very good to use with meat and other “heavy” dishes.
Dietary fiber
Practically not digested. Passing through the intestines, they “hook” all the toxins that accumulate there due to malnutrition. When losing weight, the amount of such harmful substances increases. - A huge amount of vitamin C. 100 g contains the daily norm. This is more than all citrus and bell peppers. It is not directly related to weight loss, but such a “bonus” is very useful for immunity.
- Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant that slows down the aging process and prevents the formation of atypical tumor cells. Contained in high-calorie foods – eggs, nuts, fatty fish. People who watch their figure usually do not use such a menu, which leads to a deficiency of vitamin E. Kiwi is able to solve this problem.
- Nicotinic acid (PP) reduces the level of triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood. For those who suffer from severe forms of obesity, this is vital (prevention of myocardial infarction, stroke, diabetes).
- Of the trace elements, iodine is especially important for those who are losing weight. It is necessary for the thyroid gland, without which it is impossible to control weight.
The composition is also rich in vitamins A, group B (B1, B6, B12, B5), calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus. Such a variety, combined with low calorie content, guarantees excellent results in losing weight without harm to health. But the lack of nutrients is the main reason why nutritionists do not welcome the passion for diets.
Preparation
In order to get the maximum effect (you can lose up to 1.5 kg of weight per day), proper preparation is important:
- The day before, we stop eating fatty and “harmful” foods (we exclude products with dyes, preservatives, fried, smoked dishes).
- The last meal is no later than 6:00 pm, and it is better if it is just a glass of kefir.
- Prepare 2 liters of still mineral water and 1 kg of kiwi in advance.
How to choose a quality product?
Surely, each of us has bought green fruits at least once in our life. What a disappointment it is when instead of a delicious sweet treat, you get something that goes straight to the trash? In order not to make mistakes anymore, remember the simple rules:
- By consistency, choose the golden mean: too hard – these are unripe, and very soft – most likely overripe or even spoiled.
- By color: look for a uniform greenish-protective color and a small fluff. If there are dark spots or uneven “hair”, it is better not to take them.
- By smell: fresh fruits do not smell. During long-term storage, a “winey smell” appears – this is a sign of spoilage.
- A special place is where the stalk was attached. If a drop of juice appears after pressing, the storage was incorrect.
- Additional plaque: it should not be! This is a sign of mold.
And finally, it is better to buy fruit not in ready-made packaging, but by weight. No wonder such ones are slightly more expensive. By doing so, sellers confirm that it is easier to hide spoiled products in ready-made packages.

The classic kiwi fasting day involves the following menu:
- Breakfast: 1 low-fat yogurt and 2 kiwi
- Lunch: lettuce with kiwi, arugula (or other greens of your choice) and 1 chicken breast. You can boil, bake or steam the breast
- Afternoon snack: 1 kiwi
- Dinner: 1 kiwi and a slice of whole grain bread
Option 2. “Strict”
Here we only eat kiwi – no yogurt, bread or meat. The fruits should be consumed in the amount of 1 kg. Be sure to drink water.
Option 3. “Exit”
In order not to harm the body after a strict diet, it is important to gradually return to the usual diet:
- Breakfast: 1 kiwi and a slice of bread with honey
- Lunch: vegetable soup and 1 kiwi
- Afternoon snack: 1 kiwi
- Dinner: any light meal at your discretion, but avoid heavy, fatty foods
