Today, there are many different weight loss drugs that are actively recommended by nutritionists and are popular with those who want to shed extra pounds.
“Reduxin” – a weight loss drug in the form of tablets – is one of such drugs. It has a long-term effect and allows you to lose weight even with obesity. Before starting a course of taking the medicine, it is important to learn about its effect on the body aimed at weight loss and consult a nutritionist, doctor or any other specialist.
Release form
What Reduxin weight loss pills look like? There are two types of capsules that differ in color and amount of active substance:
- blue tablets, containing 10 mg of Sibutramine and 158.5 mg of cellulose;
- blue capsules with a higher concentration of active substance and a reduced amount of excipient: 15 mg of Sibutramine and 153.5 mg of cellulose.
In addition, there is another drug with the same name, but labeled as Light. Of course, it begs the logical question of which “Reduxin” (regular or Light) is more effective for weight loss?
Features of “Light”
“Reduxin Light” is also used for weight loss, but unlike the usual drug, which acts on the body centrally, it is considered a simple dietary supplement by many nutritionists and therapists. Its main active ingredient is a conjugated fatty acid (polyunsaturated) – linoleic acid. It helps to normalize metabolism. Here’s how it works:
- affects the body’s enzyme systems, which are responsible for the accumulation of fat in the subcutaneous tissue;
- prevents their normal functioning;
- prevents further growth of subcutaneous fatty tissue;
- as a result, it does not accumulate in cells;
- stimulates protein synthesis, which makes muscles stronger;
- as a result, the skin in problem areas becomes more elastic and toned.
‘Reduxin Light’ has fewer contraindications
Another advantage of “Reduxin” labeled as “Light” is the low number of contraindications, compared to those indicated for the drug. Despite this, it is the drug (the usual capsules), and not the dietary supplement, that allows you to say goodbye to extra pounds faster and more efficiently. You can’t get such good results with Light, although side effects will be much less common. So the choice is yours (of course, with the help of a specialist). And before you start losing weight with the help of this drug, let’s look at its composition.
Composition
What is the secret of the high efficiency of “Reduxin” in losing weight? The effect of this drug on the body depends on its active components, each of which plays a role in reducing those extra pounds:
- Sibutramine selectively affects certain areas of the brain responsible for regulating the feeling of hunger – artificially causes a distinct feeling of fullness, reducing the amount of food consumed;
- cellulose actively binds and then quickly removes various microorganisms, toxins, xenobiotics and allergens, which, when accumulated in the body, can create fat deposits;
- calcium is an excipient that prevents the body from experiencing a deficiency of this microelement, which is necessary for metabolic processes that occur during the “Reduxin” weight loss course.
The shell of the tablets contains safe dyes and gelatin, which have no effect on the body. Thus, the main pharmacological effect of “Reduxin” on the body aimed at weight loss is associated with anti-obesity action.
Debunking myths. Despite various rumors, Sibutramine-containing drugs (including Reduxin for weight loss) are not banned in Russia.
Indications
Do not forget that “Reduxin”, although used for weight loss, is a real drug. Therefore, self-medication is not recommended; it should be prescribed by a specialist. The indications for its use are as follows:
- body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or significantly higher;
- BMI of 27 kg/m2, provided that obesity is combined with other diseases, for example, diabetes mellitus (only type II, that is, non-insulin-dependent).
Since these are strong pills, taking Reduxin to lose weight can be stressful for the body, therefore, in addition to indications, this drug has a number of contraindications.
Contraindications
In order to avoid unexpected side effects and disappointments during the course of losing weight with “Reduxin”, it is important to learn about the list of contraindications to its use, which includes quite a few points:
- organic obesity;
- nervous bulimia or anorexia;
- mental illness;
- nervous tics;
- taking MAO inhibitors (phentermine, fenfluramine, dexfenfluramine, ethylamphetamine, ephedrine), antidepressants and neuroleptics, tryptophan-containing drugs;
- cardiovascular problems;
- blood pressure above 145/90 mm Hg;
- liver and kidney diseases;
- prostate diseases;
- glaucoma;
- drug, alcohol or substance abuse;
- pregnancy;
- lactation period;
- juvenile (under 18 years of age) and senile (over 65 years of age);
- individual intolerance to Sibutramine – the main active ingredient.
If you have been diagnosed with any of the above conditions, you will need to look for a more gentle way to lose weight. For example, “Reduxin Light” for weight loss has much fewer contraindications (they are limited to lactation, pregnancy and age).
Keep in mind. “Reduxin” for weight loss is available in pharmacies, but strictly by prescription.
