Pumpkin Seed Oil: An Effective Weight Loss Supplement?

  • Food additive

  • Contraindications

Reducing body fat and body volume is a complex process that requires several techniques used simultaneously. Products that normalize metabolic processes can have a fairly good effect.

Food additive

Pumpkin was made famous not only for becoming a coach in a famous fairy tale. This vegetable contains lots of healthy substances: fiber, vitamins and an impressive mineral content. Nutritionists are not in vain constantly regretting the fact that it is completely absent in the food used by many people.

Pumpkin seed oil is a kind of concentrate of everything that this vegetable has to be proud of. This product is rich in vitamin B as well as A and E. It also contains fruit and fatty acids, phospholipids, flavonoids, and carotene (which gives many pumpkin varieties their orange color).

What are the properties of pumpkin seed oil that allow you to include it in your diet for weight loss? Some people believe that when this product is ingested it causes subcutaneous fat to break down and then all unnecessary substances are removed from the body. This is a tempting assumption, but it is not true. Here is what actually happens:

  • the pancreas functions more actively;
  • digestion processes are activated;
  • the body is better cleansed of metabolic products.

Scientific fact. Subcutaneous fat is normally only broken down during active muscle work, i.e. during exercise. Simultaneous activation of metabolic processes creates favorable conditions for weight loss.

Another important condition is balanced nutrition. If the diet contains a lot of refined fats and fast carbohydrates, pumpkin seed oil will at best neutralize the formation of new subcutaneous fat.

User instructions

How to take pumpkin seed oil to lose weight? Remember how new foods are introduced into a child’s diet. They usually start with very small portions. This also applies here.

It is recommended to start using this product with the volume of one teaspoon. Add this amount of oil to salad, finished sauce, slightly chilled porridge or soup (only if it is one of the types that is eaten cold). Any dish that includes unheated vegetable oil will do.

Important! Pumpkin seed oil should not be subjected to high temperature treatment since it loses almost all of its healthy properties in such cases. It is also important to follow the storage requirements: in a dark place at a temperature under 25 С.

It is recommended to introduce a new product into the diet in trial mode, in a calm environment. Allergic reactions or other intolerance can never be ruled out. Even in those who like to eat pumpkin and feel no discomfort with their digestion.

There is also another delicate aspect to consider: possible increased intestinal peristalsis. If the intensity is moderate, such an effect can only be welcomed. However, diarrhea is also possible, and in this case it is recommended to take sorbents, drink plenty of fluids and rest.

Has the body accepted the new product well? If desired, you can slightly increase the dosage. However, you should not completely replace vegetable oil in your diet with pumpkin oil. The maximum allowable amount is no more than three tablespoons per day. Larger quantities can have a negative effect on the pancreas.

If the tolerance is good, you can try another technique and start drinking pumpkin seed oil in its pure form for weight loss. The scheme is simple: one teaspoon an hour before eating, up to three times a day. The exact schedule will be defined by the reaction of your body. Perhaps only one intake will be enough for some.

The smell and taste deserve separate mention. Reviews of these characteristics are very diverse. Some people are in awe of the specific notes of the aroma and taste while others, at best, simply do not like them. Are you from the second group? The not very pleasant taste can be improved by washing the oil down with several sips of any natural juice. It is not recommended to use water for this purpose. Another option is to eat a small piece of bread (oat, buckwheat) or crispbread. It should be kept in mind that bread can also stimulate the digestive tract, and the reaction of the body to such a combination of products should be monitored.

Did this oil not work? Do not be discouraged, there are other no less interesting options: sea buckthorn, castor, black cumin, coconut.

Contraindications

The main ones are diseases of the pancreas and gallbladder, especially if accompanied by stone formation. Diseases of the digestive system such as gastritis and stomach ulcers are second in place.

For the following diseases/conditions, pumpkin seed oil should only be used on the advice of a healthcare practitioner:

  • pregnancy, breastfeeding;
  • diabetes (any type);
  • any type of organ dysfunction.

Reasonable use of pumpkin seed oil for weight loss allows you to achieve higher results, which are provided by diet and feasible and permitted physical activity.
