Pumpkin Seed Oil for Weight Loss: How Effective Is It?

  • Dietary Supplement
  • Direction for Use
  • Contraindication
    • Losing excess weight is a complex process that requires a multidirectional complex of techniques. Using the products which improve metabolic processes can potentially lead to good results.

      Dietary Supplement

      Pumpkin is known not only for being transformed into a carriage in a famous fairy tale. This fruit contains a lot of components, fiber, vitamins, and an impressive mineral composition. It is no coincidence that nutritionists now and then express their regret that it is completely absent from many diets.

      Pumpkin seed oil is a unique concentrator of everything that this fruit can “boast” about. This product is rich in B vitamins, as well as A and E. Vegetable and fatty acids, phospholipids, flavonoids, and carotene (which provides many pumpkin varieties with their characteristic orange color) are also present.

      What properties allow pumpkin oil to be used in a diet for weight loss? Some believe that this product (when used internally) breaks down the subcutaneous fatty layer, and then it helps the body eliminate everything unnecessary. This is an attractive belief, but not true. But here’s what really happens:

      • the pancreas function improves;
      • Digestive processes are activated;
      • The body gets rid of metabolic products better.

      Scientific fact. Normally, subcutaneous fat is broken down only with active muscular work, i.e., during physical activity. Simultaneous activation of metabolic processes creates favorable conditions for weight loss.

      Another important condition is a balanced diet. If the food contains an abundance of refined fats and “fast” carbohydrates, then, at best, pumpkin oil will slow down the formation of new subcutaneous fat layers.

      Direction for Use

      How to take pumpkin oil for weight loss? Remember how new foods are introduced into a child’s diet. They usually start with very small portions. Everything is similar here.

      It is recommended to start using this product with the amount of a teaspoon. Add exactly this amount of oil to a salad, to a ready-made sauce, a slightly cooled portion of porridge, soup (unless it is one of those that are eaten cold). Any dish, the recipe of which involves the use of vegetable oil without heating it, will do.

      Important! Heat treatment of pumpkin oil is unacceptable; it almost completely deprives it of its beneficial properties. It is also important to observe the storage conditions: in the dark and at a temperature below 25˚С.

      It is recommended to carry out a trial introduction of a new product in a calm environment. Allergic reactions or intolerance can never be ruled out. Even for those who eat pumpkin with pleasure, without the slightest discomfort for digestion.

      There is one more delicate point to consider: possible increased intestinal motility. If it manifests itself to a mild degree, one can only be glad of such an effect. However, diarrhea is not excluded, which can be treated by taking sorbents, drinking plenty of fluids, and resting.

      Did the body accept the new product positively? If desired, you can slightly increase the “dosage”. However, you should not completely replace vegetable oil, present in the diet, with pumpkin oil. The maximum allowable amount is no more than three tablespoons per day. A larger volume can negatively affect the functioning of the pancreas.

      With good tolerance, you can try another way and start drinking pumpkin oil for weight loss in its pure form. The scheme is simple: a teaspoon an hour before meals, up to three times a day. A more precise scheme will be prompted by the reaction of your own body. For some, a single dose may already give the desired effect.

      The smell and taste deserve a separate mention. Opinions about these characteristics are diametrically opposite. Some praise the specific notes of aroma and taste, while others are not enthusiastic, at best. Are you in the second group? The unpleasant taste can be reduced by drinking the oil with a couple of sips of any natural juice. It is not advisable to use water for this purpose. Another option is to eat a small (oatmeal, buckwheat) loaf or crouton. It should be borne in mind that bread itself stimulates intestinal motility, and the reaction of the body to such combinations of products should be monitored.

      Didn’t this oil work for you? Don’t worry, there are other equally interesting ones: sea buckthorn, castor, black cumin, coconut.

      Contraindication

      The main ones are diseases of the pancreas and gallbladder, especially with calculi formation. In second place are such diseases of the gastrointestinal tract as gastritis and ulcers.

      The following diseases/conditions require pumpkin oil to be taken only after medical approval:

      • pregnancy/lactation;
      • diabetes mellitus (regardless of type);
      • dysfunction of internal organs.

      Rational use of pumpkin oil for weight loss allows you to achieve better results, which dietary nutrition in combination with feasible and permissible physical activity provides.
