  • Methods of use and rules
  • Contraindications

Are you willing to start fighting extra pounds and looking for decent ways to do it? Remember, an integrated approach is the best one. Ideally, when the main measures (sports and proper nutrition) are supported by various auxiliary methods.

Benefits of mustard

This herbaceous plant has been known to people since ancient times.
The attitude to mustard is very ambiguous: some are delighted with it, others cannot stand it. It’s all about the bitter taste and the burning effect of many of its varieties.

Fun fact. In Ancient Greece, mustard seeds were an obligatory part of offerings to the gods.

When they talk about the use of mustard for weight loss, what are we dealing with – a newfangled trend or a real opportunity to become slim and fit? If you learn how to use this product correctly, then it’s the latter.

The benefits of mustard are truly great. This plant is a real vitamin and mineral complex. The main vitamins are E, B vitamins, and A. Even though they are in small quantities, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus, which are so necessary for us, are present there. Mustard oil contained in the seeds is rich with fatty acids that are very important for the body.

Relatively recently, it became known about the high content of brassinosteroids in mustard. This is a special class of phytohormones supporting adaptive functions of the organism: resistance to stress, changes of climate and the environment, various diseases.

The bitterness and pungency of mustard are due to the essential oil contained in it, which is the main property that allows using mustard for weight loss. After all, the burning sensation that we feel means significant activation of blood circulation and metabolic processes. And in the matter of losing excess subcutaneous fat, this factor is very important.

Methods of use and rules

Inside or outside? Are there any restrictions on the amount of the product? These and many other issues should be thoroughly studied by everyone, even if mustard is among your favorite spices.

Inside

The main question is how to take mustard oil for weight loss? Many people are sure that the best method is to drink it on an empty stomach. And at the same time, you should put up with the burning effect and bitter taste, repeating the proverb about beauty and sacrifice as a mantra.
However, can many people manage to noticeably lose weight while constantly experiencing negative emotions?

It would seem that the fans of bitter taste and spicy condiments can rejoice – mustard oil seems to be created especially for them. However, it is only possible to refer to medical knowledge here: anything that can seriously burn mucous membranes requires extremely cautious use.

Conclusion: no intake on an empty stomach! You just need to replace the usual vegetable oil with mustard oil partially in your daily diet. And start with literally a few drops, watching the reaction of your body carefully.

Salad dressing, ready-made sauce, porridge are the main dishes to which it is recommended to add mustard oil. You cannot fry on it: the useful properties will go away quickly.

Is it absolutely impossible to adjust your diet? Do you dislike its taste or have any contraindications to adding it to food? Then try using it externally.

Wraps

The simplest recipe: take 100 ml of olive oil and add 20 ml of mustard oil. Soak a thin soft cloth, gauze bandage, or a wide bandage (in two or three layers) in the mixture. Wrap the problem area with the oiled cloth, then with the cling film. Do not overtighten your body or limbs while doing so, as if trying to squeeze out the subcutaneous fat. A tight bandage will restrict movement and can seriously disrupt blood and lymph flow. And then, instead of a positive effect, you will only get discomfort.

You can find more recipes of mustard wraps in our separate article.

Another useful mixture for wraps: three tablespoons of honey plus two tablespoons of mustard oil. Apply it directly to the skin (without using a cloth, as in the previous case). Plus cling film on top.

You can read more about this method here.

No matter which recipe you chose for wrapping, it is recommended to dress warmly (for an additional warming effect) and to move around. In good weather, you can walk or run in a park or in a yard. At home, you can do fitness or have a good cleaning. Any wrap lasts up to twenty minutes, and it can be done no more than three times a week.

And do not forget about mustard baths for weight loss. They can also be effective if used correctly.

Important! Be sure to check your skin – how well it tolerates the product. A few drops applied to the elbow will tell you if there is hypersensitivity or allergy.

Contraindications

Can there be any harm from using mustard? Yes, and some negative aspects have already been mentioned above – possible burns, irritations, allergy/intolerance. Here are some more diseases/conditions when you should refrain from using mustard:

  • gastritis;
  • peptic ulcer;
  • frequent indigestion disorders (even without a specific diagnosis);
  • any diseases in an acute phase, especially with an elevated body temperature.

Expectant/nursing mothers and people with severe somatic diseases should get medical approval. Have you had any cases of bradycardia, blood pressure disorders? And here you will need either a consultation with a doctor or increased monitoring of your condition.

The benefits of mustard oil for weight loss are unquestionable only if used correctly. The subcutaneous fat layer will not go away if your nutrition is full of refined fats, and your physical exercise is low or non-existent.
